
2025 Student Research Paper Competition
This award will be presented to the first authors of two outstanding student research papers. All eligible papers will be evaluated by at least three experts based on the criteria described below. ​

Two winners will be awarded $500 CAD each.
The deadline for submission is
11:59 PM PST August 31st, 2025.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a current undergraduate or graduate student, or a recent graduate who completed their degree requirements on or after August 31st, 2023

Applicants be a CAPB member
-
Applicants must reside in Canada
Submission Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Co-authorship: A submitted paper can have multiple co-authors, however, the applicant must be the first author on the paper to be considered for the award

Submission: Multiple submissions by the same applicant will not be eligible

Faculty mentor: The faculty mentor of the applicant must be identified
-
Originality: Submission must be an original research work of the applicant. Original research articles that were published within 24 months of the current submission deadline will be eligible

Publication Status: The submitted paper must have been accepted at the time of submission and have been assigned a digital object identifier by the publishing journal. Preprint will not be considered for the award

Peer Review: The submitted paper must have been peer-reviewed prior to publication
Submission Guidelines

Language: The submitted paper must be written in English

Format: The submitted paper must be in .pdf format from the publishing journal

Expected date of completion of degree requirement (or date of completion of degree requirements for recent graduates)

Submission Deadline
Submission must be received by 11:59 PM PST on August 31st, 2025.
Upon receipt of the submission, a conformation email will be sent to the applicant.
Judging
Submitted papers will be evaluated by a judging panel of at least three scientists in the field based on the following criteria:

Originality/identification of research problem and methodology (40%)

Analysis and interpretation of data (30%)
-
Presentation and writing style (30%)
