2024 CAPB Research Paper Competition

Awards: $500 (number of awards = 2)

Process

This award is presented to two outstanding research papers at the CAPB conference. All eligible papers will be evaluated by three experts following the criteria mentioned below. Winners of the award will be announced via email before the annual conference. Winners will be invited to attend the conference and present the data in an oral/poster format.

Eligibility

  • Must be current undergraduate/graduate students or recent graduates (within two years) who graduated on or after March 31, 2022
  • Must be a CAPB member
  • Participants must be from Canada

Submission Requirements

You must meet the following criteria:

  • Author Status: Must be an undergraduate/graduate or recent graduate as mentioned above
  • Co-authorship: A submitted paper can have multiple co-authors, however, the first author who submits the paper will be mentioned as the award recipient
  • Submission: Multiple submissions by the first author is not eligible
  • Faculty mentor: Faculty mentor must be identified
  • Originality: Must be an original research work of the first author. An original research article that was published within 24 months of the current submission deadline is eligible
    Note: All submitted papers will be assessed based on originality, interpretation, and presentation as indicated below in the judging criteria. If the submitted article was published online, we encourage authors NOT to indicate the journal ranking or the journal impact factor. However, authors must indicate if the article was published within two years of the submission deadline.

Submission Deadline

All submission forms and manuscripts must be received by 12:00 a.m. (midnight) PST on March 31, 2024

Paper Preparation

  •  Language: The paper must be written in English
  •  Length: No longer than 3000 words. References, abstract, tables, and figures not included
  •  Font: Times new roman (12 font size); margin of 2.5 cm all around; double spaced; number each line
  •  Accepted format: Either .doc or .pdf format

Bibliographies & citations

Figures & Tables

  • Figures and tables must be formatted and inserted in the main text of the document

Title Page & Abstract

  • Title page must include author’s name, faculty mentor, academic affiliation, expected graduation date or recent graduation date, corresponding author’s email address
  • Abstract no more than 150 words
  • Page headers and footers should only include shortened title & page numbers

Confirmation of submission

  • Once complete documents are received, a confirmation email will be sent to the author

Judging

  •  Judging panel: Papers will be evaluated by at least three scientists in the field
  •  Criteria: Papers will be judged based on the following
    • Originality/Identification of research problem and methodology (40%)
    • Analysis and interpretation of data (30%)
    • Presentation and writing style (30%)
